Michigan Roadside Attractions: Mini Mac Bridge in St. Louis
Michigan Roadside Attractions is a periodic feature on Travel the Mitten that will explore the many interesting things that can be found on the highways, byways and back roads of Michigan, ranging from the interesting to the unusual.
On a recent trip to the Midland area, we found ourselves driving through Gratiot County and as we passed a sign for the Mini Mac Storage Facility I remembered reading about a Mackinac Bridge replica. I turned the car around and we pulled into the storage facility, and there it was: the Mini Mac Bridge, possibly the most accurate replica of the Mackinac Bridge that can be found in Michigan. We love finding new roadside attractions as we travel the state, and this quickly became a favorite. The attention to detail is amazing, as this bridge even has a grated section in the middle and lights on its cables and towers.
Much like the Little Mac Bridge in Reed City, this is a Mackinac Bridge replica that is easy to visit and walk across. The pond that serves as a replica Lake Michigan and Lake Huron here is full of fish and turtles, and the land on the other side of the bridge is shaped like the Lower Peninsula. There’s even a replica toll booth! When it comes to roadside attractions that are worth a slight detour, this bridge definitely makes the list!
With this Mini Mac Bridge being located on the storage facility’s property it is important that all guest treat it with respect. A lot of work went in to constructing this replica bridge and more work goes in to keeping it looking great. Mini Mac Storage is located at 8200 N. Begole Rd., just north of M-46 and just east of US-127.
