Michigan Roadside Attractions is a periodic feature on Travel the Mitten that will explore the many interesting things that can be found on the highways, byways and back roads of Michigan, ranging from the interesting to unusual.

Walk in to any grocery or convenience store in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, and chances are you’ll easily find Jilbert Dairy‘s milk and other products in the cooler(s). The headquarter’s for this operation is located on Meeske Ave. in Marquette, just a block from US-41. The building is easy to recognize, with a cow statue on its roof – and another cow statue sits in a small picnic area next to the parking lot.

Jilbert Dairy has been around since the 1930s, and move to the Marquette location in 1983. They are now owned by Dean Foods, but continue to have a positive impact in the community. The Farm Store here at 200 Meeske Ave. is open Monday through Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and makes for a great spot to grab a dairy treat and sit down for a break while traveling. It’s also a great spot for a photo op with one of our better roadside attractions!
