Old Nation Brewing Co., Williamston
If you’re a craft beer drinker in Michigan, there’s little chance you haven’t heard of Old Nation Brewing Co. at this point. As New England style IPAs continue to grow in both popularity and availability, Old Nation’s M-43 continues to lead the way. We recently made a trip to the brewery in Williamston to check out the food and beer offerings, and bring home some Boss Tweed – their double NEIPA that is released in limited quantities through ticketed events.
We ordered a flight of nearly every available beer (except for Boxer and M-43 that we had previously tried in cans). Offerings included:
Grand Rye Pale Ale – American Pale Ale; 5.5% ABV
Detroit Dwarf – Altbier, 5.3% ABV
Double Dwarf – A coffee infused version of the Double Dwarf altbier; 9.7% ABV
Ten Penny Bit – Scottish Ale; 5.1 % ABV
Greenstone DDH APA – American Pale Ale; 5.5% ABV
Boss Tweed – New England Style Double IPA; 9.3% ABV
Sanders Chocolate Stout – A sweet stout that uses Sanders Chocolate from Detroit; 4.8% ABV
Sanders Bumpy Cake – Imperial Brown Ale; 8.5% ABV
Detroit Brewing Company Radler – A German version of a shandy that features tart and fresh lemon; 4.5 %ABV
DayMaus – Berliner Weisse sour; 4.8% ABV
Over Privileged – “Twice fermented and steel aged for nine months for an imperial stout that is drinkable even with the high ABV. Flavors of spiced chocolate and roasted notes”; 11.8% ABV
Standouts from our flight included Greenstone, Boss Tweed, Sanders Chocolate Stout, Double Dwarf and Over Privileged.
Old Nation Brewing also offers an extensive food menu that includes appetizers, sandwiches, burgers, pizza, entrees and more. Be sure to check out the weekday lunch specials and highlights like pasties, the Pig Stacked Burger, Two Crow Stout Glazed Salmon and build-your-own flatbread pizzas.
We’ve visited this fantastic brewery twice, the first for a Boss Tweed release day and the second on our way back from a Detroit Tigers game. On both occasions Old Nation was quite busy, but we received prompt, attentive, and friendly service and top quality food and beer.
