Haymarket Brewery and Taproom, Bridgman
The Haymarket Brewery and Taproom location in Bridgman, Michigan may only be a little more than a year old, but Haymarket has been producing great beer in Chicago for more than seven years. When looking to expand their production abilities, a former state police post near Bridgman offered plenty of space and an excellent opportunity to bring new beers into Michigan. We were recently in the area to visit Transient Artisan Ales and Tapistry Brewing Company, and couldn’t turn down the chance to visit Haymarket too.
One of the highlights of Haymarket’s food menu is their wood oven pizza. While many of the options sounded good, we went with the bacon and potato pizza. It was delicious! The brewery also offers house-made seasonal sausages, burgers, salads, appetizers, and a kids menu.
Haymarket had quite a few beers available, with a variety of styles represented. You should be able to find something here for just about anyone, whether they prefer lagers, pilsners, IPAs, pale ales, stouts, porters, or blonde ales.
We got a flight of four beers that included F.I.P.A. (an American Pale Ale brewed with 100% Pilsen malt, hopped and dry-hopped with Mosaic), Infusco Coffee Brown, Schwarzbier (malty and hoppy German black lager), Lucy’s Belgian Tripel, and Hazy is Lazy (IPA). Our favorite was the Infusco, but I was also pretty happy to find a decent schwarzbier on the menu. Flagship beers that should always be on tap at Haymarket include Speakerswagon Pilsner, Aleister American Style IPA, Oscar’s Pardon Belgian-Style Pale, and Mathias Imperial IPA (all also available in cans).
In addition to a spacious dining area and a large bar, we noticed the outdoor beer garden space right away. It’s pretty easy to envision this area packed on a summer weekend, with visitors enjoying outdoor games and cold beer. There is a company store as well, for merchandise and beer to go purchases. This seems to be a great addition to the beer scene in southwest Michigan, and we look forward to returning when the weather gets nicer (or when we next visit Warren Dunes State Park).
