Michigan’s Largest Aquarium Offers Cheaper Visit With June Buy One Get One Free Deal

We’re big fans of the Michigan Sea Life Aquarium here at Travel the Mitten. The largest aquarium in the state opened in January and has seen strong demand. When we reviewed our visit to the aquarium prior to the opening, one of the biggest comments was on the price. We’re here today to make sure you’re aware of a June special going on.

June is National Aquarium Month and Sea Life of Michigan has teamed up with Kroger to offer a Buy One (Adult) Get One Free (Child) ticket deal. Through the end of June, travel to any Kroger store and take advantage of this no coupon needed deal. According to Bargains to Bounty, you can buy the ticket through any checkout lane.

Purchase an adult ticket for $23.50 and you receive a free child (3-12) ticket (normal value $18.50). The tickets are good through the end of the year, which is the best part of this deal. You may also purchase more than one adult ticket to take further advantage of this deal. For example, buy two adult tickets and get two free kid passes, which would save you $37 and give the family a trip to the aquarium for $47.

Another advantage of the deal is the tickets you buy get you into the prepaid line. At the aquarium, they stagger entrances to allow guests the chance to enjoy their experience with a limited number of people bumping shoulders with them. This line gives you quicker access to getting into the aquarium versus the people walking in and buying tickets that day.

Our visit to the aquarium was enjoyed by our two boys. A walk through puts you up close to many species of animals. The aquarium has also received a rescued sea turtle named Benson since our visit that will likely be a fan favorite. The Touch Area, which featured crabs, sea stars, and sea urchins, was the busiest area on our visit.

Sea Life Michigan is located at Great Lakes Crossing Mall in Auburn Hills. Travel through Entrance 7 (near Rainforest Café) to get into the aquarium. Be sure to check out other nearby kid friendly attractions in Auburn Hills to make a possible big day or short vacation out of your visit. With the money you save on tickets, perhaps you could attend a show at the nearby Palace of Auburn Hills. Here’s three upcoming shows:

  • September 25-27: Marvel Universe Live! – show features your kids’ favorite Marvel characters. In four days there is seven performances. This was featured in our list of nearby attractions.
  • October 15-18: Disney on Ice Treasure Trove – features a large number of Disney characters like many Disney Princesses, Peter Pan, Captain Hook, characters from Lion King, and characters from Alice in Wonderland
  • November 11-15: Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Presents Legends – latest Circus from legendary company

Of course, with your tickets good through the end of the year, you could also wait and pair a trip to the aquarium with a Detroit Pistons game.
