Michigan State Park Mini Cabins and Camper Cabins
It’s spring, and now that the snow is gone it’s time to start thinking about vacation plans. It might be a little on the cool side for tent camping just yet, which is why Michigan state park mini cabins are a great option for early-season travelers (especially in the Upper Peninsula). Throughout the rest of the year, these cabins make a great option for those who don’t have an RV and either don’t want to set up, maintain and take down a tent or want more flexibility for weather and quick entrance/exit.
Michigan state park mini cabins are set up to sleep four people, with bunks and mattresses provided. Visitors need to bring their own bedding, pillows and other supplies. Outside of each mini cabin there will be a fire pit and a picnic table. Anyone staying in a mini cabin has full access to the shower and restroom facilities in the campground. Many mini cabins are set up as barrier free/universally accessible.
Upper Peninsula state parks with mini cabins include Baraga State Park (1), Brimley State Park (1), Fort Wilkins State Park (1), McLain State Park (6), Straits State Park (2), Twin Lakes State Park (1) and Van Riper State Park (2). The minimum stay for these state park mini cabins north of the Mackinac Bridge is only one night.
In the Lower Peninsula, there are many options. There is a minimum rental of two nights at each of these mini cabins, with the exception of Warren Dunes State Park (three night minimum). You’ll find mini cabins at Bay City Recreation Area (2), Burt Lake State Park (1), Clear Lake State Park (1), Harrisville State Park (2), Hoeft State Park (1), Interlochen State Park (2), Leelanau State Park (2), Ludington State Park (1), Mitchell State Park (1), North Higgins Lake State Park (2), Orchard Beach State Park (1), Otsego Lake State Park (1), Petoskey State Park (2), Port Crescent State Park (1), Sleeper State Park (1), South Higgins Lake State Park (1), Tawas Point State Park (2), Traverse City State Park (2), Wilson State Park (1), Young State Park (2), Fort Custer Recreation Area (2), Hayes State Park (2), Holly Recreation Area (2), Ionia Recreation Area (2), Lakeport State Park (2), Metamora-Hadley Recreation Area (2), Muskegon State Park (2), Proud Lake Recreation Area (2) and Warren Dunes State Park (3).
In addition to mini cabins, a handful of state parks offer larger camper cabins for rent. These cabins have two bedrooms and are recommended for up to six people and also have a covered front porch. Camper cabin rentals run between $60-80 per night, and most cabins are less than 10 years old.
