West Michigan Whitecaps Baseball 2024 Promotions: 24 Games We’re Excited For
The West Michigan Whitecaps announced their full promotional schedule on February 7th, and we had a chance to look through it and see which games we will be most excited to attend. It’s already a big year for the Whitecaps as a multi-year construction project aims to revitalize the ballpark and make it one of the best in the Midwest. The Whitecaps are the High-A affiliate of the Detroit Tigers and will once again showcase some of the organization’s brightest young stars while mixing in nights of fun, giveaways, and awareness during the 2024 season. Games start in April and run through the end of summer, so you’ll have some time to plan and plenty of chances to catch the team in action. Here’s the 24 West Michigan Whitecaps baseball promotions we’re most looking forward to in 2024:
Opening Night/Whitecaps Scarf Giveaway (April 9) – See the Whitecaps start the 2024 season agains the Quad City River Bandits, and if you’re one of the first 1,000 fans you will take home a Whitecaps scarf. There’s always lots of other fun activities going on on opening day, so bundle up and head to the ballpark.
National Grilled Cheese Day (April 11) – Celebrate the iconic sandwich during the game, grilled cheese will be sold for one dollar (tomato soup will be one dollar as well). This game is part of April Dollar Days ($2 reserved seat tickets) and is also a HopCat FRY-day so all fans will receive a coupon for free Cosmik Fries at HopCat.
Prospect Series Bobblehead: Colt Keith (May 11) – The first 1,000 fans will take home a collectible bobblehead of 2020 fifth round pick and former Whitecap Colt Keith, who is one of the top prospects in MLB. This game is also Military Appreciation Night and will feature a post-game fireworks show.
Paint the Park Pink (May 12) – “The West Michigan Whitecaps have teamed up with Trinity Health for the 2024 Paint the Park Pink event at LMCU Ballpark! A portion of all tickets purchased through this portal will go directly to the Mobile Mammography Program at the Trinity Health Lacks Cancer Center!” This is a Corewell Health Family Sunday, where kids can play catch and get autographs on the field before the game. The first 1,000 kids eat for free, and they can run the bases after the game.
Bluey & Bingo Meet and Greet (May 31/June 1) – Get your picture taken with one of the biggest stars in children’s television, and expect plenty of other Bluey themed activities during the game. There are postgame fireworks on the 1st.
Las Calaveras de West Michigan (June 2/July 27/August 25) – Back for a fifth season, the Whitecaps wear special jerseys and celebrate Hispanic/Lation heritage on Copa de la Diversion nights.
Prospect Series Bobblehead: Jackson Jobe (June 11) – 2021 3rd overall pick Jackson Jobe, a former Whitecap, is the second player featured in this year’s bobblehead giveaways. The first 1,000 fans will take home one of these collectibles, and this is also a JOY 99 Bulletin Night (half off bowl seats with a worship or community bulletin).
First Responders Night (June 12) – Be one of the first 1,000 fans through the gates on this night and get a commemorative Whitecaps First Responders hat. The team will honor fire, police, EMT and other first responders throughout the night. This is also a Silver Sluggers game, with half off tickets for fans 50 years of age or older.
Pride Night (June 13) – “The Whitecaps will celebrate diversity, inclusion, and unity by hosting a Pride Night celebration for fans at LMCU Ballpark. Fans can purchase a special ticket package and a Whitecaps Pride t-shirt with a portion of the proceeds going directly to the Grand Rapids Pride Center.” This game is also a Thrifty Thursday and there will be post-game fireworks.
Princess & Pirate Night (June 14) – There is a lot going on for the Friday June 14th game agains the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers. Fans are encouraged to dress as their favorite pirate or princess for a chance to win a prize, the first 500 pirates and 500 princesses through the gates will take home a tiara or pirate hat, and it is also Girl Scout Night! It’s also a HopCat FRY-day and there will be a post-game family dance on the field.
Human Cannonball Post-Game Blast Off (June 15) – Stay put after the game ends for a human cannonball show from David “the Bullet” Smith. if you’ve missed him during previous visits, you’ll want to make sure you’re at LMCU Ballpark for this one!
Star Wars Night (June 22) – One of our absolute favorite nights of the entire season is Star Wars night, when dozens of costumed characters will be on hand for photos. You can meet your favorite Star Wars characters and see the Whitecaps take the field in special jersey that will be auctioned off after the game to help youth baseball.
Red, White, & Franky Bobblehead Giveaway (July 3) – Get amped up for the 4th of July with a festive night on July 3rd, where the first 1,000 fans can take home a patriotic Franky bobblehead. It’s also American Legion Night, a Silver Sluggers game, and you can bet on there being post-game fireworks!
Marvel’s Defenders of the Diamond Night/Marvel Super Hero Night/Marvel Super Hero Day (July 19/20/21) – A full weekend of Marvel fun is on tap in the middle of July. Captain America will be on hand for the Friday game, which is also a HopCat FRY-day and will feature post-game fireworks. On Saturday you can meet Black Panther and enjoy post-game fireworks, and on Sunday (a Corewell Health Family Sunday) Spider-Man will be on hand. The Whitecaps will wear special jerseys for the Saturday and Sunday games.
Super Splash Day (July 24) – The playground will be transformed into a water park for this game and young fans are encouraged to wear a bathing suit for a fun-filled day. This game is also part of the “Crush the Nuts” series against the cross-state rival Lansing Lugnuts, and it is a Silver Sluggers game as well.
Christmas in July (July 25) – The first 1,000 fans will receive a Holiday Roxy bobblehead, and the holiday themed fun won’t stop there. This is also a Thrifty Thursday game, a Dueling Pianos Night, a post-game fireworks show night, and part of the “Crush the Nuts” series.
BATTER UP ! (July 26) – Another “Crush the Nuts” game and a HopCat FRY-day, this game also features a unique and exciting post-game promotion: “After the game, everybody is invited to step onto the field and take a swing at a ball! Hit a bag, WIN THE PRIZE INSIDE! Don’t hit a bag, don’t worry, you STILL get a prize. BATTER UP! Every batter wins a prize!”
Ag Night (August 6) – West Michigan has a rich agricultural heritage and the Whitecaps will celebrate that by giving the first 1,000 fans a Farmer Crash bobblehead and hosting a night of fun. This is a Bulletin Night and will feature a post-game fireworks show.
President Gerald R. Ford 50th Anniversary Celebration (August 9) – Celebrate the life and legacy of Grand Rapids native and 38th President of the United States of America on the anniversary of his inauguration. We can’t wait to see what kind of fun activities the team has planned for this night, which is also a HopCat FRY-day.
Grand Rapids Dam Breakers (August 10) – The Whitecaps will wear special jerseys to help raise funds for Grand Rapids Whitewater (an organization seeking to restore the rapids in Grand Rapids) as they take the field for one night as the Grand Rapids Dam Breakers.
Rivalry Night (August 22) – Fans of both Michigan and Michigan State come together for this game to raise money for two great causes.Wear your green and white or maize and blue as the Michael Sadler Foundation and the Chad Tough Foundation will get a portion of proceeds from ticket sales, the 50/50 raffle, and an online auction. This game is on a Thrifty Thursday and there will be post-game fireworks as well.
Beer City Bung Hammers (August 23) – One of the Whitecaps’ all time favorite specialty jerseys will return in 2024 as the team pays homage to our city’s beer and brewing history by taking the field as the Beer City Bung Hammers. Expect lots of beer themed activities and promotions through the night!
Yooper Day (September 6) – Celebrate our friends to the north on a day (9/06) that matches their area code (906)! Wear your flannel, throw on your Stormy Kromer, and grab a cold Upper Hand Brewery beer as we celebrate all things north of the Mackinac Bridge.
If It Isn’t Neon, It Shouldn’t Be On/Prospect Series Bobblehead: Jace Jung (September 7) – The second to last home game of the regular season is going to keep things bright. The first 1,000 fans will receive a bobblehead of former Whitecap and Tigers top prospect Jace Jung, and the night’s activities will be heavy neon-focused. “Make sure to stick around after the game for a special “glow” edition of the Whitecaps world famous Dino Dance and unique Glow in the Dark run the bases.” This is also a “Crush the Nuts” game and there will be post-game fireworks.
