Michigan Roadside Attractions: Wienerlicious in Mackinaw City and America’s Largest Hot Dog Statue
Michigan Roadside Attractions is a periodic feature on Travel the Mitten that will explore the many interesting things that can be found on the highways, byways and back roads of Michigan, ranging from the interesting to unusual.
We’ve featured many different Michigan roadside attractions so far, and today we turn our attention to a fine piece of Americana in Mackinaw City – the current world’s largest hot dog statue at on top of Wienerlicious. Checking in at 60 feet long and weighing seven tons, this fiberglass hot dog rests in a bun and is covered with all the fixins’.
This is also a fairly new addition to Michigan’s collection of roadside attractions, as the restaurant opened in 2014. The hot dog can be seen from I-75 as you travel north towards the Mackinac Bridge, but it’s definitely worth taking exit 339 and getting a closer look.
You can get more info from Wienerlicious’ Facebook page, its entry on Roadside America, or check out reviews and a menu on TripAdvisor. Its street address is 102 E.Central Ave, on the west end of the “downtown strip.”
