Don’t Miss the New Mackinaw Crossings Transformer This Summer!

As we headed to the Upper Peninsula on May 31st we made a stop in Mackinaw City to stop at a few stores before crossing the Mackinac Bridge. As we strolled through the Mackinaw Crossings Mall we noticed quite a bit of activity at the playground area and what looked to be the legs of a statue that looked like a Transformer of some sort. There wasn’t a lot of information to be found online, so we continued on our way and planned to stop on our way back to see if any progress had been made. Nine days later we returned to find that the statue had been finished and was already quite the draw for visitors. If you’re heading to Mackinaw City this summer, you won’t want to miss out on seeing the “Mack-a-tron” when you visit! Here’s some information about the new Mackinaw Crossings Transformer:

The Mackinaw Crossings website now invites visitors to “come see this awesome 30 foot tall robot that was assembled right here in Michigan” and their map even shows its location near the Courtyards Cinema and Sharky’s Mackinaw Outfitters. An Mlive.com article that interviewed the mall’s owners got some more details about this piece designed by Kalifano, which is made from recycled auto parts and even includes some pieces of old deck grating from the Mackinac Bridge! With more than 50 shops, the Victorian-inspired Mackinaw Crossings is a popular spot in Mackinaw City. We love walking through the mall here and think Mack-a-tron is a great addition that will be very popular with families this summer and for years to come. The mall offers live music, laser light shows, and more throughout the summer months.
