Betsie River Campsite is Perfect for Summer Trips to Frankfort and Sleeping Bear Dunes

Betsie River Campsite Cabin Cookout 2022

We mostly stay in Michigan state parks when camping each summer, but sometime we check out new privately owned campgrounds that better fit our destination. Last summer we had a great stay at the Betsie River Campsite in Frankfort while spending a weekend exploring Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. This is a perfect campground for anyone looking to still have most modern conveniences while camping, and especially for families with young children. While the name might imply that this campground is located on the water (it is not), it is located very close to great water sources for kayaking, swimming, fishing, and more.

In addition to being the southern gateway to the stunning Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, Frankfort is also home to a sandy beach on Lake Michigan, a historic lighthouse, a vibrant downtown with dining and drink options, and some of the best fishing in Northern Michigan. Betsie River Campsite makes for a great base camp for exploring all of those things.

Betsie River Campsite Office and Store

Betsie River Campsite offers more than sites, many with hookups for RVs. They also have more than 20 mini cabins available for rent. Shower and restroom facilities were clean and a small store at the office offers camping essentials and souvenirs. It was nice to stay at a family owned and operated campground for a change, and something we will look to try and do more often in the future! The small cabin was perfect for the three of us, with plenty of room for sleeping, a great porch for sitting, and a picnic table and firepit for cooking and preparing meals.
