Mackinaw Trail Winery and Brewing Company – Petoskey
A family-owned operation that started in Manistique in 2004, Mackinaw Trail Winery continues to be one of the fastest growing producers of great Michigan wine. A winery and vineyard location was opened in Petoskey in 2013, and a beer brewing operation followed in 2014. On our recent trip to the Petoskey area we stopped in to check out the selection of beer, and were very impressed with this place that we featured it on our list of 14 Northern Michigan Breweries You Should Check Out For Michigan Craft Beer Month.
There were seven offerings when we visited, including a delicious, flavorful Breakfast Stout. Afternoon Delight (pilsner), Double Trouble (double IPA), Cran Apple Cider, Super Cyser, Bear Creek Amber and Summer Squeeze were the other options on tap, and we found the cider and cyser to be incredibly well done and the Double Trouble was quite refreshing. Mackinaw Trail also offers popular varieties like the U.P Yours IP “Eh”, Fudged Up Stout and Molasses Bourbon Stout. The Molasses Bourbon Stout is barrel aged and checks in with a 12.2% ABV, making it something we definitely want to try on our next visit.
Mackinaw Trail offers up 20 different wines, with a great selection of whites (Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Dry Riesling, Gewurztraminer, Late Harvest Piesling, White Ibis), reds (Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet/Merlot, Syrah, Pinot Noir, Big Red), fruit wines (Blackberry, Blueberry, Cranberry, Cherry Sangria, Strawberry Rhubarb, Spiced Apple) and dessert wines (North Shore Red, Vidal Blanc Ice Wine).
A small bistro food menu features appetizers like soft pretzels and meat/cheese/veggie plates, as well as salads, paninis and a burger. A few dessert items are also available. Growlers of beer are available and the store has bottles of wine, apparel and accessories for sale as well.
