Harmony Brewing Company – East Grand Rapids
We headed to East Grand Rapids on a Wednesday afternoon – hungry, thirsty and ready to try out a brewery we had heard pretty positive things about. Harmony Brewing Company has only been open since 2012, but has established a reputation for great pizza and food as well as some tasty beers.
We got things started with a flight that included the Brownson Brown, Fiddlestix IPA, Grand Daddy Rapids Cream Ale, Winter Nights Winter Warmer and Capricorn Absinthe Donut Stout. The brown and IPA were both great while the cream ale was a bit on the lighter side. Both the winter warmer and the stout came across as heavy with alcohol flavor, which wasn’t completely surprising given their ABVs over 8%.
We ordered up the “Crispy Pig” pizza and it came out within 10 minutes and was incredibly delicious. A thin crust with minimal sauce topped with pepperoni, ham, prosciutto, fresh mozzarella cheese and basil was enough to satisfy 2 people, and was fresh and tasty enough to justify its $16 price tag. Other great food options on the menu included fresh salads and sandwiches as well as many more pizza options.
A second beer flight for us included the Crossroads Rye PA, Golden Lion Tamarin Mild Pale Ale, Grapefruit Moon IPA Shandy, Winter Joy and Oli Bollen Spiced Winter Wheat. These were all pretty enjoyable, with the grapefruit shandy, Winter Joy and Oli Bollen standing out. The Winter Joy is a 1/2 and 1/2 combination of VanderMill Cider and the Winter Nights beer, and the two blended together very well.
Things were pretty busy the entire time we were there, which led to moderately slow service at times. The beer was pretty good, and we’d definitely go back to try more of the food options.
